Description
Painted in 2010 when I used to run an evening life class primarily for painters. After a few short warm-up poses, the model would take up a position that would be kept during the whole of the 2 hours or so of the remaining time — the models’ position would be marked with chalk for the breaks. The painting would benefit or suffer, from this ‘ala prima’ constraint, as remarkably no improvement seemed possible after the event. Paintings either ‘worked’ or, as often happened, were destined to be painted over ready for the next attempt.
